ANTIOCH BAPTIST BIBLE INSTITUTE

OUR HISTORY

Our Bible Institute began in 1977 as Trinity Baptist College and Seminary, a ministry of Trinity Baptist Temple (Knoxville, TN) under the leadership of the church's founding pastor, Dr. Luther Adkins. Dr. Adkins started the school with a desire to provide honest Bible training to those who wanted to learn the word of God. Under the leadership of the church's second pastor, Dr. David F. Reagan, the church name was changed from Trinity Baptist Temple to Antioch Baptist Church. The main reason for the change was the confusion incurred because of the numerous Trinitys and Temples in the Knoxville area. Following suit, Trinity Baptist College and Seminary became Antioch Baptist College. Toward the end of Dr. Reagan's life, the school was forced to undergo another name change (due to a threat of legal action by another Antioch College) and became known as Scripture Baptist College. The school operated under that title until 2009 when the third and current pastor, Dr.  Andrew B. Ray, changed the name to Antioch Baptist Bible Institute. This decision was made for multiple reasons. For one, this brings the school back into a closer association with the local church. Secondly, identifying the school as a Bible Institute more accurately describes the nature of the education provided by our school.

Although the school has gone through several name changes, perhaps the greater change is in the way in which classes can be taken. Under Dr. Reagan's ministry a desire was expressed that our local classes would become available for students in other locations via correspondence courses. This began on a small-scale via cassette tapes and printed notes and eventually grew to include some classes uploaded to LearntheBible.org under the auspice of Learn the Bible University, but it was not until 2017, that this dream fully became a reality. Now, correspondent students have access to classroom videos and notes just like the students who attend locally in Knoxville, TN. Despite all the changes, our stand remains unwavering; our purpose remains anchored; our content still majors on a verse-by-verse understanding of God's holy word in the King James Bible. Even with our expansion in scope, our classes remain FREE of charge.
